This haversack is based off that used by Henry Neal of Westminster, MD who served in Stuart's Horse Artillery. The bag is made from a durable cotton osnaburg and is completely handsewn, and closed with a paper-backed tin button. The trap is machine sewn and made from cotton drill, but attached to the bag by hand. This style of haversack is a sample of one the more common styles of issue haversack produced by the Richmond Clothing Bureau and issued to the Army of Northern Virginia.
